Description
Short description of the project: DORIS is a three-year project co-financed by the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership and Horizon Europe, aimed at developing modular and mobile systems for the valorisation of by‑products and waste from fisheries and aquaculture.
Expected results: The project will deliver adaptable valorisation technologies validated on real fisheries and aquaculture waste streams, alongside mappings of EU basin by‑products, decision‑support tools, and techno‑economic assessments. These outputs aim to demonstrate the technical, environmental, and economic feasibility of converting marine side streams into value‑added products such as biochemicals, bioenergy, fertilisers, and functional ingredients.
Application/relevance: DORIS supports the transition towards more sustainable, circular, and resilient fisheries and aquaculture sectors by enabling SMEs to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and unlock new revenue opportunities. By aligning technological innovation with regulatory requirements and market needs, the project strengthens European blue‑economy value chains while contributing to EU goals on sustainability, circular economy, and environmental protection.
