Description

This report presents a comprehensive portfolio analysis of EU-funded projects in the algae sector from 2014 to 2023, reflecting the EU’s strategic commitment to sustainable blue growth and the bioeconomy. Anchored in the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy, and the Sustainable Blue Economy Communication, the report highlights algae as a promising source of alternative protein and a contributor to climate resilience. It provides a comprehensive and updated picture of the EU's support for algae innovation and development, including information from multiple funding programmes—such as Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF/EMFAF) and European Union’s funding programme for the environment and climate action (LIFE). This portfolio analysis includes an insight on policy feedback recommendations from the beneficiaries' perspective, as captured through survey responses.
