Description
Short description of the project: MARINNONET is a three-year project financed by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme aimed at advancing Marine Biotechnology Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I). By establishing a new transnational R&D&I cooperation network, the project seeks to boost the innovation capacity of the Atlantic Area Blue Biotech sector fostering open innovation initiatives and market-driven R&D&I activities that engage both innovators and innovation facilitators.
Tangible results: MARINNONET has supported nine pilot initiatives focused on marine biotechnology across the Atlantic Area. These pilots have led to innovations such as sustainable aquaculture feeds, seaweed-based biomaterials, marine collagen extraction, and molecular tools for fisheries and ecotoxicology. Building on the success of the first round of pilots, it has launched a second call to support new initiatives. MARINNONET also organises stakeholder engagement events (forums, workshops) reinforcing open innovation and creating pathways for stakeholders to shape new solutions.
Application/relevance: The MARINNONET network leverages collective and complementary competences and capacities to the common benefit of the blue innovation ecosystems of the Atlantic Area, to enhance competitiveness within the European and global Blue Economy, while promoting sustainable use of marine resources.
