Description
Short description of the project: OCCAM is a four-year project funded by Horizon Europe aimed at developing innovative, scalable, science-based solutions to help the European aquaculture sector adapt to and mitigate climate change.
Expected/Tangible results: This project will work on 9 case studies, each focused at developing different solutions targeting various species and countries. The solutions include, among others, the development of a model and methodology for self-assessment of wate, a strategy for upcycling pond sediments, a decision support tool for sea lice management, a pyrolysis process for aquaculture sludge, web-based risk assessment system for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), and a digital tool to monitor the performance and carbon footprint of bivalve production.
Application/Relevance: The project will empower the aquaculture sector with actionable knowledge, scalable technologies, and policy-ready recommendations that reduce environmental impact while enhancing competitiveness, food security, and socio-economic sustainability across Europe.
