EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism

Multi-Use in European Seas (MUSES)

Description

MUSES was a two-year project funded by EU Horizon 2020, aimed at exploring the possibilities and showcasing the opportunities of Multi-Use (MU) in European Seas.

Tangible results: The project developed a platform with 7 case studies, each of which presents analysed data obtained as a result of thorough research on the benefits and limitations of the MU in certain locations. In addition, an Action Plan was defined, which describes the barriers to and essential opportunities for MU in European Seas, emphasising on future benefits. The platform also includes regional overviews of MU for five EU sea basins, namely, Baltic Sea, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Eastern Atlantic.

Application/relevance: The project results help users identify multi-use potentiality, opportunities and limitations of the European sea basins, leading to a number of local benefits while reducing barriers, impacts, and risks. The project therefore contributes to the increase of competitiveness and economic performance of Europe's aquaculture sector.
