EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism

Building Research environments for fostering Innovation, Decision making, Governance and Education to support Blue growth (BlueBRIDGE)

Description

BlueBRIDGE was a two-and-a-half-year project funded by EU Horizon 2020, aimed at improving the competitiveness and economic performance of Europe's Blue growth sector, through the delivery of tailored Data Management services for Aquaculture, Maritime Spatial Planning, Fisheries and Education.

Tangible results: The project developed 66 web-based platforms, referred to as ‘Virtual Research Environments’ (VREs), each giving access to tailored data and services providing a better understanding of the marine and maritime environments, their living resources, and economies. The project also provided a report on best practices and socio-economic performance analysis on aquaculture.

Application/relevance: These VREs provide users from different disciplines, institutions or even countries, with secure access to collaborative tools, services, data, and computational facilities meeting their specific needs. In addition, the developed best practices have increased knowledge and supported capacity building to boost the Blue Growth sector.
