Description
Short description of the project: COCKLES was a three-year project funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, aimed at restoring production and services provided by cockles, threatened by disease outbreaks and suboptimal management.
Tangible results: The project published a parasite and disease census book of the common European cockle that includes pathogens descriptions, illustrations, distribution along the Atlantic area, diagnosis techniques and respective risk management guidelines. In addition, the project developed a cockle GIS to facilitate the visualization of results and their application in the management of the resource throughout the Atlantic Area.
Application/relevance: These resources were meant to bring knowledge to stakeholders, policy makers, fishermen, reserve managers and educational staff through an ordered, synthesised, easily understandable way.
