EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism

Cross-border development and transfer of innovative and sustainable aquaculture technologies in the South Baltic area (InnoAquaTech)

Description

Short description of the project: InnoAquaTech was a three-year project funded by the Interreg South Baltic programme, aimed at increasing the innovation capacity of SMEs and their support organisations, as well as enabling them to develop and implement cross-border value chains for sustainable food markets.

Tangible results: The project developed a user-friendly Decision Support Tool (DST) that lets users set up a virtual Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and simulate its performance in terms of resource consumption (environmental aspects) and running costs (economical aspects). The output of this simulation is thereafter presented in a set of informative graphs.

Application/relevance: The DST provides interested parties with an overview of how RAS facilities work and which aspects are to be taken into account when constructing an aquaculture system.
