Eco-aquaponics systems – 100% sustainable and profitable EU fish-farming (EASY FEED)

Description

EASYFeed was a one-year project funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), aimed at producing organic aquaculture feed formula, in order to bring an innovative sustainable production model to the fish farming sector and offer European consumers healthy, high quality and affordable seafood products.

Tangible results: EASYFeed designed and produced an organic aquaculture formula made out of spirulina and quinoa, that completely excludes the use of fishmeal and fish oil from its composition, therefore decreasing the dependence of the sector on marine resources.

Application/relevance: EASYFeed developed a substitute to feed fish in farms that excludes the use of fish, therefore decreasing the dependence of the aquaculture sector on marine resources. It is also profitable as its production costs are up to 40% cheaper than classical feed.
