Empowering Women and Mainstreaming Gender Equality in the Blue Economy (WINBLUE)

Description

Short description of the project: WINBLUE is a two-year project financed by EMFF aimed at addressing the often overlooked and undervalued contribution of women in the blue economy. Recognizing the underrepresentation of women in technical and scientific roles within STEM disciplines, particularly in male-dominated sectors of the blue economy, WINBLUE seeks to accelerate the empowerment of women in this field.

Expected results: The main results of the project include fostering gender equality through the implementation of inclusive practices, upskilling programmes, and the identification of replicable good practices, ultimately creating a more diverse and innovative sector.

Application/relevance: WINBLUE directly addresses gender disparities in the aquaculture industry by promoting women's participation in technical-scientific roles, implementing gender equality plans, and facilitating upskilling programmes, thus contributing to a more inclusive and diverse aquaculture workforce in Europe.
