Description
EMBRIC was a four-year project funded by EU Horizon 2020, aimed at bringing Europe’s marine blue bioeconomy forward through the creation of a perennial cluster of research infrastructures (RIs) to foster innovation in marine biotechnologies.
Tangible results: The project set up a data management service – the EMBRIC Configurator – targeting those embarking on the design of new marine projects. Following the completion of an online form, as well as several rounds of structured discussion and review involving input from informatics and scientific experts, users are provided with a project-specific ‘configuration’, which includes a description of the elements of infrastructure (such as databases, standards, formats, curation groups, analysis methods and cloud compute capacity), advice on accessing and setting these elements up for the project and data management guidelines. The project also developed ‘Discovery Pipelines for Marion Bio-Products’, a tool to help industry and Academia scientists requiring assistance regarding experimental workflows or a specific experimental step.
Application/relevance: Through the Configurator and the Discovery Pipelines, the project offers free consultancy service to assist marine scientists with their needs around blue biotechnology and biomolecular work. The Configurator is no longer available, but would-be users are encouraged to complete the online form to be routed to the most appropriate resources for their studies.
