Green innovation strategies for animal health management: towards sustainable Aquaculture (GRINNAQUA)

Description

Short description of the project: GRINNAQUA is a three-year project funded by Horizon Europe aimed at strengthening the research capacity in areas such as fish immune systems, vaccination strategies, genetics, and functional diets. The project addresses viral and parasitic outbreaks in species like rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon, contributing to sustainable aquaculture practices.

Expected results: GRINNAQUA will review the latest research and innovation advances in the aquaculture sector, as well as identify and addressing institutional gaps and deficiencies. In addition, it will 1) raise research profiles and excellence via networking, training and mentoring; 2)increase stakeholder interaction and mobilisations towards partnerships;  3) establish an enabling environment for the development and maintenance of long-term international collaborations; and, 4)deliver a framework for strengthening research and innovation in the aquaculture sector.

Applications/relevance: GRINNAQUA will be instrumental to orientate research to contribute to economic growth and the implementation of the Green Deal and Farm-to-Fork strategies
