Identification of broodstock performance indicators and makers to boost the aquaculture of emerging fish species (BestBrood)

Description

Short description of the project: BestBrood was a three-year project financed by Horizon 2020, aimed at evolving biotechnologies that significantly improve broodstock management methods and enhance the reproductive performance of selected emerging species.

Tangible results: The results of the project include the publication of four management manuals dedicated to Sole fish, Spotted Wolffish, Lumpfish and Greater Amberjack broodstock management, which provide insights into the latest developments in broodstock maintenance and handling of these species. 

Application/relevance: The application of BestBrood has led to a more stable and predictable supply of high volumes of high-quality eggs to produce juveniles to meet market demands for sustainability and increase Europe's aquaculture competitive.
