Land-based Automated Recirculating Aquaculture (LARA)

Short description of the project: LARA is a two-year project funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) aimed at confronting the growing challenge of securing a stable and sustainable seafood supply. LARA aims to harness the power of sunlight to cultivate seafood, decoupling it from traditional marine ecosystems. 

Expected results: The project has developed and implemented LARA, a modular aquaculture system designed for sustainable and local fish production. The system is equipped with mechanical and biological water treatment systems, pumps, sensors, cameras, feeders, heaters and more. 

Application/relevance: This project presents a major advancement in sustainable aquaculture as LARA is blending sustainability with high technology in a unique and novel way.
