Description
Short description of the project: PHOTO-SENS was a four-year project financed by Horizon 2020 aimed at connecting pioneering photonic biosensor technology with aquaculture expertise to establish an aquaculture pathogen detection hub and a working prototype system for monitoring salmon pathogen.
Tangible results: The project has demonstrated on a prototype level manufacturability of a device based on Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) based biosensors and microfluidic that enables on-site pathogen testing in aquaculture facilities.
Application/relevance: The PHOTO-SENS project benefits the EU aquaculture sector by providing advanced technology for early and precise pathogen detection, improving fish health and food safety. The scalable and cost-effective biosensing platform helps prevent disease outbreaks, enhancing sustainability and efficiency in fish farming.
