Description
Short description of the project: RENAQUA was a three-year project funded by the EU's Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service, aimed at assessing the potential for co-location of aquaculture and marine energy activities, and identifying associated potential conflicts in coastal areas.
Tangible results: The project developed the IH Maritime Spatial Planning Platform, which integrates the results of the RENAQUA project, studies undertaken by the ATLAS and ATLAS PRO projects and data from the EMODNet platform. The tool illustrates current aquaculture and marine energy activities, as well as potential locations for future development. The platform provides oceanic and meteorological data over the last 25 years, including climate change projections.
Application/relevance: The tool is designed with the purpose of integrating scientific and technical knowledge of researchers in the region of Cantabria. While it focuses on the Spanish coastal waters, it can also support the MSP initiatives in other regions.
