Description
Following requests from its member countries, at the Eleventh Regular Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture in 2007, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) agreed to lead a process towards production of the report on The State of the World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture on (the Report). In the context of the Report, aquatic genetic resources (AqGR) include DNA, genes, chromosomes, tissues, gametes, embryos and other early life history stages, individuals, strains, stocks and communities of organisms of actual or potential value for food and agriculture. At the Fourteenth Regular Session of the CGRFA in 2013, it was further agreed that the scope of this first ever global assessment on AqGR for food and agriculture should be farmed aquatic species and their wild relatives within national jurisdiction.
