EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism

Blue Bioeconomy Forum (BBF)

Description

BBF was a one-year project funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), aimed at developing a common understanding of the current status of blue bioeconomy in Europe and at collectively identifying strategic developments, market opportunities, appropriate financial assistance, regulatory actions and research priorities.

Tangible results: BBF designed and developed a blue bioeconomy roadmap in a joint effort with its Steering members, thematic working groups, and the active involvement of the wider blue economy community (the Forum). The roadmap identifies a total of 14 challenges of the blue bioeconomy and formulates solutions to tackle these.

Application/relevance: The Roadmap provides a contribution to the industry’s future competitiveness, by supporting the main stakeholders to better understand the market’s future regulatory, research, financial assistance and product needs; identify critical gaps between what exists and what is needed; and define the short, medium and long-term actions that are required to unlock the potential of the sector.
